Casazza, Italy
For our wedding we wanted to get married in Casazza, Italy; so we took a trip to check out possible locations. Since we were planning on coming back for our wedding and honeymoon we planned just a few days in November — which isn’t necessarily a great time to go to Northern Italy.
Casazza is near Lake Como, so we flew into Milan and booked a room at a Howard Johnson’s in Como. This must be the best HoJo’s in the entire world. Although the rooms aren’t really much, the breakfast was a small European spread of meats and espresso. Something about Italian espresso, so creamy. YUM.
We drove to Casazza which was about 30 miles or so away. It’s a quaint little town. Old church of coarse. But we realized by now that everything is closed on May 1st for a national holiday.
Right outside of Casazza May spotted a store which we stopped at. She found a veil to use in the wedding.
We went into Milan. It’s beautiful city. The main cathedral was under construction. The shops were pretty upscale. There was something about, inside the main square shops there was a print of a bull on the floor and it was good to step on it’s testicles for good luck. Writing this 10+ years later, I believe there may have been an AIDS quilt exhibit in the way.
Como was pretty fabulous. We can see why George Clooney has a place here, and why the European royalty and celebs have been coming here for hundreds of years. Walking into the main walled town we stopped at a coffee shop and had one of many amazing espressos. We learned Volta had a connection to the city. We visited Bellagio. Villa d’Este. And drove some crazy narrow cobble stone Italian roads, much of it in a cold driving rain. It was too quite and a bit gloomy. Had we known it would be at least twelve (and counting) years before we’d return we might have made different arrangements. That said we are so glad we went and have a full set of memories.
