Annivesary Number Three
For anniversary number three we want to Vietnam. The itinerary took us to Hanoi and then to Hoi An. We really wanted to go to Saigon, May’s birthplace, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Hanoi was very nice, if a bit tight. Given May’s family history and as Americans there’s no ignoring some of the emotions of being in North Vietnam. Like driving by the Hanoi Hilton and seeing the Yellow Star flags flying everywhere.
Getting beyond that, the visit to one of the oldest universities in the world was amazing. There was these turtle statues that supposedly were good luck to rub on the head. The heads were very smooth from a couple thousand years of rubbing. And any hotel that has a Chocolate Happy Hour is okay by Jeff. We did the tourist stuff like take a rickshaw and go to the water puppet show. The latter was amazing and I’m still mad I didn’t buy a puppet when I had a chance.
Then it was down to Hoi An. Right on the beach. Where they use water buffalos to groom the sand. The pool, air and ocean were all about the same temperature. Nice! The hotel was half French owned. And it had a European Colonial feel.
This was one of Baby Lillian’s first big trips. She was great through the whole trip. She got wheeled around every where in the stroller. Absolutely loved the warm pool water (just like her mother). And seemed to be very at home.
